When you think about the pain you may be experiencing, can you identify where the root of that pain began?

Was it from an unhealthy relationship or a difficult upbringing? Maybe it was from someone outside your family, or a health concern you are facing. Or maybe it comes from choices you have made that have brought you to where you are today- broken and in need of healing.

The first step of understanding where the root of our pain began is to understand there is a name for it and a place and time where all that suffering began-

To find the answers to help us find healing and begin moving forward, we need to go back to the beginning.

In Genesis 3:14–19 we find the root of our pain being described as a Curse given over all creation by the Creator of all things because of the disobedience of God’s first humans towards God’s simple command- “do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die."

Genesis 2:17

It may seem like a silly command and choosing to eat from that tree may seem harmless. You may think God cursing all mankind and all creation from that moment on may seem overly harsh.

But God can never be cruel nor can He be evil.

Life is a gift from God, for God gives life!

Jesus tells us “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10

You see the death He was speaking of was a spiritual death- a separation from God that comes from our turning to our own ways and rejecting His good and prefect and protective life giving ways.

No matter how we may want to justify it, excuse it, ignore it, or validate it, sin is the curse and root of our suffering and sin that affects every area of our lives and has a direct and/or indirect affect of us.

Thankfully there is a road that God provided through His Son Jesus Christ that can lead us back to Him and can help all of us begin to find the healing and freedom we are all searching and longing for.

Let’s take the fire step in our healing.

Your turn:

Take a look at Ephesians 1:6-10.

the Apostle Paul tells about this “Road to Redemption.”
