Why Do We Long for More?

Is it normal to ponder about the meaning of life?

If this life is all there is-

Why does my mind think of deeper things?

Is this all that life has to offer?

When was the last time you sat in the stillness of creation and deep within your soul you felt this stirring -

“There must be a god-“

There is depth to us all-

A longing for more that no earthly thing can fill and no human can satisfy.

It is the longing of the soul that draws us to ponder these deeper questions.

No matter how dark the world may feel at times-

No matter how much the world tries to cloud the realness of the spirit realm-

No matter how much we fill our bellies with the things of this world-

Our souls will always long for more- because we were created for something outside this world.

We were created for God.

Did you know God, your Creator, The heavenly Father is telling you the same truth:

“You were made for more!”

We were created to be satisfied in God, that is why we chase after everything we can here on earth - and still have a longing for something beyond.

The psalmist tells us of our human longing for more - for God.

Psalm 84:2- “My very being longs, even yearns, for the Lord’s courtyards. My heart and my body will rejoice out loud to the living God.

The writer of Ecclesiastes also share with us his experience in life:

“Meaningless! Meaningless! Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless...”

Solomon, the one whom asked the Lord for wisdom, discovered the futility of life when it is lived only for this world.

Our purpose in life, as God originated is to enjoy fellowship with our Heavenly Father and to live a life that glorifies Him.

Your turn:

1. What have you chased after that has left you feeling empty?

2. Let your mind ponder - open your heart and mind to what God will reveal to you: His goodness and love and purpose for you.

3. Look up Bible verses that will help your mind be captivated by the Wonder and Glory of God.
